Serbia highway tolls & road rules

Serbia operates a closed-system motorway network where tolls are paid at physical barrier plazas based on the distance traveled. No national vignette is required — you pay as you exit the highway.

Good to know

  • No vignette system: Serbia does not use any time-based vignette stickers or digital passes. Tolls are strictly distance-based and collected at motorway exit plazas.
  • Entry ticket system: When you enter a toll motorway, you pull a ticket from the automated machine. You MUST keep this ticket safe until you reach your exit, as it determines the total amount you owe.
  • Accepted payment channels: All manned toll plazas accept Serbian Dinar (RSD) cash, Euro (EUR) cash, and standard international credit/debit cards.
  • ENP (Electronic Toll Collection): Regular travelers can purchase an "ENP" transponder device. This allows for non-stop transit through special marked lanes at the toll plazas.
  • Trailer class: Towing a trailer or caravan increases your vehicle category, which effectively increases the toll rate per kilometer compared to a standard passenger car.

Toll plaza violations

SituationFine
Losing your entry ticketMaximum possible fee for the entire motorway length + potential administrative penalty
Bypassing a toll barrier plazaSevere traffic fines and vehicle interception by national highway police

Keep your entry ticket until the exit plaza. Never attempt to bypass a closed barrier.

Commonquestions

No. Serbia uses a "closed" toll system where you pay at gates when exiting the highway.

Yes, toll booths accept Euro cash, but the change will be given in Serbian Dinar (RSD) and the internal conversion rate is typically less favorable than standard bank rates.

Paying by international credit or debit card is generally the most convenient and cost-effective method for foreign travelers.

ENP is Serbia's electronic toll collection system. It is a transponder used by frequent travelers to avoid queuing at manual toll booths.

No. Tolls in Serbia are applied exclusively to modern motorways (Autoput). All other national and regional roads are free.

We calculate your exact toll budget for the route, advise on the best payment methods, and handle all your mandatory digital transit vignettes for surrounding countries in a single checkout.

  • Tolls are applicable on the following major "Autoput" segments:
  • A1: Subotica – Belgrade – Niš – Preševo (Corridor X).
  • A2: Belgrade – Čačak (Miloš Veliki).
  • A3: Belgrade – Šid (Croatian border).
  • A5: Pojate – Preljina (Morava Corridor).
  • All other national and regional roads outside the Autoput motorway network remain toll-free.
