How much does the Romanian vignette for a passenger car cost in 2026?
Passenger-car prices are €3.50 for one day, €6 for 10 days, €9.50 for 30 days, €15 for 60 days and €50 for 12 months. These are category A rates including VAT under Romanian Law No. 141/2025.

Which roads does the vignette cover, and where is it not needed?
The vignette applies to Romania’s national-road network, including motorways and expressways. The exception is national-road sections inside city limits, between the signs marking entry to and exit from the city. Outside built-up areas, keep the vignette active. The legal definition is set out in Ordinance OG 15/2002.
This is not a distance-based toll, but a time-based authorisation stored in an electronic database. Checks use the registration number, so nothing needs to be attached to the windscreen.
How to buy the Romanian vignette before travelling
When buying, select category A, the validity period and enter the vehicle details carefully. The important details are the registration number, country of registration, vehicle category, validity start date and, depending on the sales channel, the VIN as well. - Check that the vehicle is a category-A passenger car; a van or vehicle registered as a goods vehicle may fall under a different rate.
- Choose validity covering the entire period in which you will use the tolled network.
- Check the registration number, including every character, and the country of registration twice.
- Save the confirmation and check the validity start before entering a tolled section.

When does the vignette start and end?
For a purchase dated today, the vignette starts when the payment is recorded in the system; for a future date, it starts at 00:00 on the selected day. It ends at 24:00 on the last day of the purchased period. Do not confuse the purchase date with the validity start date.
A one-day vignette is not valid for 24 hours from any purchase time. It is suitable for driving on one calendar day; if you cross midnight, consider a longer validity period or an additional vignette.
Exemptions and common mistakes: motorcycles, bridges and vehicle category
Motorcycles do not pay the Romanian vignette because they are not among the chargeable categories. The legislation covers vehicles with at least two axles, while the tariff lists categories A to H, not motorcycles. For tricycles, special vehicles or unclear entries in the documents, check the classification before travelling.
The vignette does not replace a separate charge for selected bridges. The so-called peaj is paid, for example, on the bridges over the Danube between Fetești and Cernavodă. The law allows the vignette and a charge for a bridge, tunnel or mountain pass to apply at the same time.
